“I Resigned Because of His Propensity for Chaos” – Ex-Rivers Commissioner Under Wike

Austin Tam George, a former Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communication, has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of undermining governance in Rivers State and attempting to consolidate political control.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Thursday, Tam George said he resigned from Wike’s administration due to what he described as the minister’s “propensity for chaos and instability” and the personalization of government.

He linked the ongoing political tension in the state, including moves to impeach the governor, to Wike’s efforts to maintain influence over state politics. “I resigned because government was being reduced to a personality-driven system,” Tam George said. “Now, these tendencies have crystallized, with attempts to assert control over the state for personal political advantage.”

The former commissioner praised Governor Siminal Fubara’s administration, highlighting investments in education, health, and community development. He noted that projects such as the revival of tertiary healthcare facilities and the establishment of 122 primary healthcare centers across 23 local government areas reflect a governance approach focused on public benefit rather than political patronage.

Tam George suggested that Wike’s actions are a response to the governor’s rising influence and a potential second-term bid. “Moves perceived as impeachment efforts appear aimed at reasserting political leverage over Governor Fubara,” he said, adding that Rivers residents are likely to resist attempts to “privatize” the state.
