“I Doubt There Is a Political Solution to Stop Fubara’s Impeachment” — Rivers Lawmaker
The spokesperson of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Enemi George, has indicated that political negotiations may not prevent the ongoing impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Speaking on Thursday during an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television, George argued that repeated political interventions have not changed the governor’s conduct. He accused Fubara of repeatedly misusing public funds as if they were personal resources.
“I doubt if there is a political solution to stop the impeachment move against Fubara because we have had too many political solutions. What’s the need for political solution when he would say and do the same thing again?” George said.
He emphasized that any political approach must operate within legal boundaries, warning that violations of the constitution carry inevitable consequences.
George also noted that President Bola Tinubu, who previously mediated peace efforts among stakeholders, would likely be disappointed by the governor’s actions. “The president went through hell to assemble stakeholders to broker this peace and the governor stumbled over it again and reneged it. You can’t keep breaking the law and expect the president to come to your rescue,” he said.
The spokesperson dismissed claims that the impeachment is purely political, stressing that such assertions undermine the integrity of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
