Two Teenagers Killed in Lagos Barbershop Armed Robbery
Residents of Cele Nica community in Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State are in mourning after a deadly armed robbery at a local barbershop claimed the lives of two teenagers, identified as Chijindu and Akorede.
The incident occurred on Saturday night around 9 p.m. when three armed men stormed Abengo Close, where the barbershop is located. Witnesses said the attackers initially posed as customers before opening fire on unsuspecting patrons after seizing their belongings.
According to residents, gunshots erupted shortly after the robbers entered the shop. On rushing to the scene, they found the barber and two teenage customers lying in a pool of blood. One resident, Duuni Olafeso, said the robbers ordered everyone to lie down while collecting cash and phones. Trouble reportedly began when Chijindu told the attackers he had only N1,000 for his haircut, prompting one of the assailants to open fire.
The gunfire struck all three victims, but the barber survived by pretending to be dead. Akorede was killed instantly, while Chijindu and the barber were rushed to the hospital. Chijindu later died around midnight despite medical efforts. His employer, Ugochukwu, described him as a hardworking and responsible apprentice who had gone out for a haircut after returning from a work trip earlier that day.
Authorities recovered Akorede’s body, and his relatives, who reportedly lived outside the community, were informed of his death. Chijindu was buried on Monday. Residents described the atmosphere along Owolabi Street as sombre, with the barbershop remaining closed following the tragedy.
