Trump, Putin Agree on Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire
Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin have agreed on an immediate ceasefire affecting energy and infrastructure targets in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. Trump revealed details of the phone conversation in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, calling the discussion “very good and productive.”
According to Trump, both sides are now working rapidly toward a complete ceasefire to end what he described as “this very horrible war.” He reiterated his longstanding claim that the war would never have started had he remained in office.
Trump said the two leaders discussed key elements of what he called a “Contract for Peace,” which includes a focus on the devastating human cost of the war. He noted that both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are eager to bring the conflict to a close.
“That process is now in full force and effect,” Trump wrote, expressing hope that a resolution will be reached soon “for the sake of humanity.”
