Truck Falls Off Lagos Bridge, Crashes Onto Two Buses

A fully loaded truck fell off a bridge and crashed onto two commercial buses in the Agege area of Lagos on Saturday, leaving both vehicles completely damaged. The accident, which occurred around 11 a.m. along the Old Abeokuta Road, prompted an immediate response from officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority Response Unit (LRU).

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed the incident and said the truck driver sustained severe injuries, including fractures to both hands. According to preliminary investigations, the driver lost control of the vehicle while navigating the Pen Cinema Bridge. The truck, bearing registration number GGE 624 YJ, plunged from the bridge and landed on two stationary painted commercial Volkswagen buses beneath.

Bakare-Oki said LASTMA officers quickly extricated the injured driver and handed him over to officers from the Elere Police Division. He was later taken to the General Hospital in Ile-Epo for urgent medical treatment. In order to protect other road users and prevent further accidents, LASTMA personnel cordoned off the accident site and diverted traffic. Operatives from the LASEMA Response Unit later cleared the wreckage and restored the traffic flow in the area.

Bakare-Oki urged all motorists, particularly truck drivers, to exercise maximum caution while driving, especially with the onset of the rainy season.
