Troops Eliminate Four Suspected IPOB/ESN Members, Uncover Weapons Cache in Anambra
In a decisive operation carried out by the Troops of Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA II, at the Orsumoghu-Ukpor road in Anambra State, four suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militant wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), met their demise.
Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, Jonah Unuakhalu, released an official statement to the press on Sunday, providing details of the operation.
The encounter unfolded when the troops were ambushed by daring gunmen who deployed Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). The soldiers responded with overwhelming firepower, engaging the assailants in a fierce gunfight that resulted in the elimination of four individuals associated with IPOB.
Unuakhalu noted that during the intense exchange, the troops successfully neutralized one member of the IPOB group. Furthermore, after the confrontation, three additional lifeless bodies of the criminal elements, succumbed to gunshot wounds, were discovered at the scene.
The operation also led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles. Some of the criminals managed to flee into nearby wooded areas with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.
“The Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA II reaffirms its unwavering commitment to restoring lasting peace in the South-East region. It vows to continue its relentless efforts in addressing the security challenges facing the area,” the statement emphasized.
The Task Force urged law-abiding citizens in the South-East to play their part by providing timely, credible, and reliable information that can contribute to ending the menace of insecurity stemming from the activities of certain groups in the region.
“Operation UDO KA II will persist in its mission to combat crime and criminality, always adhering to the established rules and regulations governing its operations,” the statement concluded.
