Tragic Tree Collapse Claims Two Lives in Kwara State

Two lives were tragically lost when a massive tree branch came crashing down on unsuspecting passers-by, shop owners, and commuters waiting for commercial vehicles at Oke Andi, Sango area in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State. The incident occurred early Monday morning, casting a pall of grief over the community.

This unfortunate incident left a total of seven individuals injured to varying degrees. Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the injured were initially rushed to nearby private hospitals for emergency care. Later, they were safely transferred to General Hospital, Ilorin, for more extensive treatment. In a glimmer of hope, one of the victims, who was relocated to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), was reported to be in stable condition and responding well to treatment.

The authorities have swiftly responded to this tragedy. Okasanmi Ajayi, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), and Amina El-Imam, the State Commissioner for Health, have both confirmed the incident. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the governor conveyed the somber news that one person lost their life in the tragic accident.

Okasanmi Ajayi, the PPRO, stated, “Seven persons were affected and rushed to the hospital. Two eventually died, and others are still undergoing treatment. Investigation into the case is currently underway, and further details will be disclosed once the inquiry is concluded.”

This tree, which stood in the heart of the community, served as makeshift stalls for local vendors and a convenient spot for commuters to board commercial vehicles. The loss of these lives has sent shockwaves through the community.

Amina El-Imam, the State Commissioner for Health, expressed her condolences to the affected community members, assuring them of the government’s unwavering commitment to their well-being. She also offered her prayers for the swift recovery of all those who were injured in this tragic accident.
