In a devastating incident at the River Niger Bridge head in Onitsha, Anambra State, two children were tragically crushed to death by a truck on Saturday around 5:00 pm. The harrowing event unfolded as the truck experienced brake failure, causing it to careen out of control.
According to eyewitnesses, including one who recounted the heart-wrenching scene, the trailer, bound for Asaba, veered off course and collided with waiting passengers, including a mother and her children, who were intending to board vehicles headed in the same direction.
Remarkably, the mother narrowly escaped the horrifying fate that befell her children. Her survival amidst the chaos left onlookers stunned, while her cries of grief echoed through the air.
The aftermath of the accident also left several other individuals injured, adding to the tragedy of the situation. Despite the severity of the incident, authorities, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), have yet to issue a formal statement regarding the events leading up to the accident.
