Dangote Distributes 120,000 Bags of Rice in Kano, to Distribute 1m Bags Nationwide

The Dangote Foundation has launched a substantial rice distribution program in Kano State. The initiative kicked off with the distribution of 120,000 bags of 10kg rice to the needy in the state, with plans to extend the campaign nationwide, reaching a staggering one million vulnerable individuals across the 774 Local Government Areas of Nigeria.

Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Chairman of the foundation, underscored the importance of the initiative, describing it as an act of compassion, solidarity, and corporate responsibility. He emphasized that the distribution aligns with the foundation’s commitment to supporting communities and addressing pressing social challenges.

Recognizing Kano State’s high population and widespread poverty, Dangote stated that it was receiving a larger share of the distribution. However, he assured that efforts would be made to ensure equitable distribution across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

In addition to the rice distribution, Dangote highlighted ongoing efforts, including daily feeding programs for 10,000 people and the provision of 10,000 meals every evening during Ramadan in Kano municipality. The foundation has also been distributing bread, with 20,000 family-sized loaves in Kano and 125,000 loaves in Lagos, alongside investments in food fortification initiatives.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf commended the foundation’s initiative, emphasizing its significance in supporting vulnerable populations, particularly during Ramadan. He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support in providing grains to alleviate economic hardship in the state.

Yusuf assured transparency and fairness in the distribution process, highlighting the involvement of trusted members of Hisbah in overseeing the distribution committee. He urged other affluent Nigerians to emulate Dangote’s philanthropic efforts, emphasizing the importance of collective action in supporting those in need and fostering community welfare.
