Tragic Accident Claims Seven Lives on Osogbo-Gbongan Highway
A heart-wrenching accident unfolded on Friday, October 20, when a Sharon Nissan vehicle with license plate WW D574 AE lost control and careened off the Osogbo-Gbongan highway. The incident, reported by the Osun Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), resulted in the tragic loss of seven lives out of the ten passengers aboard.
FRSC Sector Commander Henry Benamaisia revealed the distressing details during an interview in Osogbo. The accident, occurring at approximately 7:40 pm, transpired near Ogidi village, close to the Sasa Bridge.
Of the ten individuals on board, seven met a fatal end, with the victims comprising three females, one male, and three children. Additionally, three other passengers suffered varying degrees of injuries in the catastrophic event.
Relatives of three of the deceased, who were Osun natives, transported their remains to Ode-Omu, while the remaining four were taken to the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital Osogbo by the dedicated FRSC Rescue Team.
The injured parties were promptly conveyed to an undisclosed medical facility for essential treatment and care.
Commander Benamaisia extended his gratitude to sister security agencies for their collaborative efforts in the successful rescue operation for the survivors.
Furthermore, items recovered from the accident site have been dutifully handed over to the police for proper handling and investigation. This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and responsible driving to avoid such devastating outcomes in the future.
