Magboro, Ogun State – A somber atmosphere enveloped Magboro in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State on Saturday when a horrifying accident unfolded, claiming the life of a pregnant woman and leaving her two-year-old child hospitalized.
The incident transpired when a truck, bearing the registration number TTD-643ZY, suddenly careened into Magboro market due to brake failure, causing the driver to lose control. Our correspondent, who arrived at the scene around 10:40 am, observed that the truck also collided with a car, with a motorcycle found wedged beneath its massive frame.
Reports indicate that the pregnant woman had come to the market to purchase groceries, unaware of the impending tragedy. Eyewitnesses, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted the harrowing sequence of events.
According to one eyewitness, “She was the first person to see the truck coming. As the truck approached uncontrollably, the pregnant woman attempted to flee with her young child. However, the gown she was wearing impeded her speed, causing her to fall, and tragically, the truck ran over her.”
Another witness recounted how the motorcyclist, whose bike became trapped beneath the truck, narrowly escaped death by leaping from his motorcycle in the nick of time.
Efforts to obtain updates from the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), through their spokesperson, Florence Okpe, yielded no immediate response. Our correspondent’s numerous phone calls went unanswered, and she did not respond to a text message sent before filing this report.
The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and vehicle maintenance, as a single brake failure led to a devastating loss of life and left a child fighting for survival. The community of Magboro remains in mourning as they come to terms with this heart-wrenching tragedy.
