“Tinubu’s Unplanned Leadership Must End in 2027” – APC Chieftain
Former National Vice Chairman (North-West) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Mohammed Lukman, has urged opposition parties and critical stakeholders to unite and mobilize Nigerians to dislodge the APC in the 2027 elections.
Lukman, previously the Director-General of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), emphasized in a statement on Saturday that ousting the APC is essential to tackle the myriad challenges facing the country.
He noted that achieving this goal is possible if opposition parties and citizens come together, similar to how top politicians united to push the military back to the barracks in the past.
According to Lukman, Nigerians are suffering from increasing killings, kidnappings for ransom, a food crisis, rising electricity tariffs, and high costs of transportation and goods due to the removal of fuel subsidies by the APC-led government.
“Patriotic Nigerians and democrats must resume national mobilization to create an alternative democratic platform to the APC,” Lukman said. “We must believe in the power of possibility, just as we did when we pushed the military back and defeated the PDP in 2015.”
He criticized the APC for abandoning its vision and reducing itself to a mere platform for winning elections. Lukman urged Nigerians to return to the trenches of democratic campaigns and address the failures of the APC over the past nine years.
Lukman also highlighted the lack of commitment from APC leaders, including former President Buhari and current President Tinubu, to deliver services and address national challenges. “They promised everything and did nothing,” he lamented.
He posed critical questions about the future of political organizing, emphasizing the need for a party structure that goes beyond just winning elections or grabbing power. He called for a party that ensures the President is subordinated to the party, facilitates binding negotiations, mobilizes necessary funds, and aligns leadership conditions with public office standards.
Lukman concluded by urging patriotic Nigerians to resume democratic struggles and provide practical answers to these questions. He stressed the importance of developing a functional political party structure and avoiding the pitfalls that destroyed the APC, warning against opportunistic political warriors who have repeatedly contested elections since 1999.
