Tinubu’s Government Inaugurates Committee to Tackle Fake Certificates
In a move to address the persistent issue of fake certificates, the Bola Tinubu-led government has announced the inauguration of an inter-ministerial committee on degree mills. The Education Minister, Prof. Tahir Mamman, is set to lead the committee, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to combating the widespread problem.
The decision follows an investigative report by Daily Nigerian, revealing the ease with which one of its reporters acquired a certificate from a university in Benin Republic. Minister Mamman, reacting strongly to the findings, condemned individuals with fake certificates as criminals and pledged to eradicate them from the system.
In response to the investigation, the federal government has taken the decisive step of suspending the accreditation of certificates from two francophone universities. This action underscores the gravity of the situation and the government’s determination to tackle the root causes of the fake certificate menace.
Despite these efforts, controversies persist concerning President Tinubu’s Chicago State University certificate. While the Supreme Court rejected fresh evidence related to his certificate forgery scandal, the matter continues to generate public debate and reactions from Nigerians. The government’s initiative to combat fake certificates reflects a broader commitment to maintaining the integrity of educational qualifications in the country.
