APC Anambra State Responds to Senator Chris Ngige’s Recent Interview

In a swift response to Senator Chris Ngige’s recent interview, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Anambra State Chapter has addressed key points raised by the former Minister of Labour in the Buhari administration. The party emphasizes the need to set the record straight on certain issues highlighted by Ngige.

Ngige, a founding father of the APC in Anambra state, is acknowledged for his significant role in the party’s evolution from SDP to its current status. However, the party questions the effectiveness of Ngige’s leadership during his tenure and examines the impact on APC’s growth.

The statement underscores that Ngige, while enjoying a substantial following, focused primarily on his own interests, sidelining other party members. His autocratic approach allegedly resulted in disillusionment among party faithful, leading to a decline in support.

The APC points out instances where Ngige contested various elections but faced defeats, including the Supreme Court’s decision to cancel the 2007 governorship election, and his subsequent losses in 2010 and 2011. Despite these setbacks, Ngige secured the Anambra central senatorial seat in 2015.

However, the statement contends that Ngige’s loyalists were left disappointed as his leadership did not translate into significant rewards for party members, except for his family. The subsequent withdrawal of support marked the end of the “Ngige era.”

The APC attributes the stunted growth of the party in Anambra state to Ngige’s leadership style, emphasizing his lack of support for key party figures and the party’s overall development.

Addressing claims of factionalism within the APC in Anambra state, the party dismisses such assertions, citing a court ruling that nullified a previous judgment seeking the nullification of the state congress. The current leadership, led by Chief Basil Ejidike, is commended for its efforts to rejuvenate the party.

The APC concludes the statement by calling on Ngige to abandon his “ego massaging attitude” and collaborate with prominent party members to ensure the success of APC in Agu Awka government. The party urges Ngige to cease obstructing efforts to reposition the party in the state.

Iyke Oliobi, State Publicity Secretary of APC, Anambra State Chapter, released the statement on 9th January 2024.
