Tinubu Won’t Seek Re-election in 2027, Says Datti Baba-Ahmed
Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, former Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has asserted that President Bola Tinubu will not seek re-election in 2027 if he is as politically astute as many believe. Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s political program Prime Time on Friday, Baba-Ahmed said Tinubu should step aside ahead of the next general election, predicting defeat for the president and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I expect Tinubu to throw in the towel if he is that smart politician that he turns out to be,” he said.
According to Baba-Ahmed, Tinubu’s political influence has already peaked, and the signs are clear that the APC will lose the next election. He also criticized Tinubu’s history of influencing presidential candidates, alleging a pattern dating back to 2007.
“He skipped 2007 and jokingly made Atiku (presidential) candidate, made Ribadu and somebody in 2011, made Buhari in 2015, Buhari won, and then skipped 2019 and they stole 2023,” he said.
Baba-Ahmed concluded that if Tinubu is truly smart, he would recognize the writing on the wall and not attempt to run in 2027.
