Tinubu Will Be Nigeria’s Sole Presidential Candidate in 2027 – Akpabio
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be Nigeria’s sole presidential candidate in the 2027 general election. Speaking at the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) National Summit in Abuja on Thursday, Akpabio praised Tinubu’s performance since assuming office in 2023 and said the President deserves a second term.
According to Akpabio, Tinubu has effectively diminished the presence of opposition parties, leaving the APC as the dominant force in Nigerian politics. “I want to move that not only would President Tinubu be the sole candidate for the presidency in 2027, but he would also be the sole candidate for the whole Nigerian population,” Akpabio said. “Because all other political parties have been turned into shreds. Nigerians are saying that because you have done a difficult job well, it’s time for us to reward you by sending you back to the presidency.”
Earlier at the event, the Progressive Governors’ Forum formally endorsed Tinubu for a second term. The Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, said the endorsement was supported by governors from the Northern APC bloc. Uzodimma emphasized that APC governors would be responsible for promoting federal government policies and ensuring electoral victories across their states in 2027.
“It is therefore my humble pleasure, with total humility to the Almighty God, to move that this August assembly adopt and concur with the position of the Progressive Governors that Mr. President carries our flag in 2027, and the governors take the responsibility for delivering this mandate. I so move,” Uzodimma stated.
The summit reflects growing consensus within the APC leadership around Tinubu’s continued leadership beyond his first term.
