JUST IN: National Assembly Leadership Endorses Tinubu for 2027
In a major show of support, the leadership of Nigeria’s National Assembly has unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The endorsement was announced during the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Summit held on Thursday at the State House banquet hall in Abuja. Senate President Godswill Akpabio led the motion, praising Tinubu’s resilience during the 2023 elections and expressing confidence in his growing political momentum.
Akpabio was joined by Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, and other top lawmakers in declaring their support for the President. In his remarks, Akpabio noted that Tinubu has worked tirelessly to reposition the country and that his efforts are being recognized by Nigerians and the international community alike.
“If this President has done well, isn’t it our responsibility to say so? And if he hasn’t done well, isn’t it also our duty to serve him a notice of impeachment? We are not giving him a notice of impeachment. We are giving him a notice that it was difficult for him in 2023. But in 2027, I see everything turning around,” Akpabio stated.
He also shared that support for Tinubu is expanding beyond the APC, revealing that a senator from the Labour Party had privately expressed a desire to join the ruling party — a sign, he said, of Tinubu’s widespread appeal and political acumen.
Akpabio further asserted that opposition parties, especially the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), are weakening. “I went to my state and saw the PDP’s umbrella — it had over 100 holes,” he said, claiming that the South-South region’s political structure is now firmly aligned with President Tinubu.
Concluding his speech, Akpabio moved that Tinubu be endorsed not only as the APC’s sole presidential candidate but also as the preferred choice of the Nigerian people for the 2027 election. The motion received unanimous backing from other National Assembly leaders, with no dissenting voices.
