Tinubu to Security Chiefs: “Enough of Widespread Killings,” Issues Strong Directives

**Tinubu to Security Chiefs: “Enough of Widespread Killings”**

President Bola Tinubu has directed security agencies to take urgent and decisive action to end the rising wave of violence in Borno, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara states, declaring that the ongoing loss of lives under his administration must stop. In a high-level security meeting held at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday, Tinubu was briefed by top security officials and expressed deep concern over the killings, stating plainly, “Enough is enough.”

The President’s comments follow weeks of escalating attacks in various parts of the country. In Plateau State alone, over 100 people have been killed in recent attacks by gunmen. Benue has seen more than 50 killed in coordinated assaults, while renewed violence by Boko Haram has rocked communities in Borno State.

According to National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, the meeting with Tinubu was extensive, with updates provided on the ground situation in the affected states. Ribadu noted that the president had earlier instructed security officials to meet with political leaders in these regions and report back. “The fact is that Mr President is insisting that we work harder to restore security in the country,” Ribadu said.

Despite the president’s renewed directives, many Nigerians have expressed frustration over his perceived absence amid the violence. Opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi, criticised Tinubu for staying in Europe while the country grapples with insecurity. Atiku cited global examples of leaders abandoning foreign trips to address national crises and said, “Nigerians are dying. The president is nowhere to be found.”

Similarly, Bishop Matthew Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto used his Easter homily to decry the worsening security situation. “Nigeria is reaching a breaking point,” Kukah said. “The nation is gradually becoming a huge national morgue. With a greater sense of urgency, hasten to bring us down from this cross of evil.”

As public pressure mounts and violence continues, Tinubu’s call to action marks a critical moment for his administration’s handling of the nation’s security crisis.
