Tinubu, Shettima Out of Nigeria as Vice President Departs for Sweden While President Remains on Leave
Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed for Sweden on a two-day official visit, while President Bola Tinubu remains abroad on a two-week vacation in the United Kingdom.
The Vice President’s trip, according to a statement from the presidency, is focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and Sweden, particularly in areas like ICT, innovation, education, and sustainable transport. He is also expected to hold high-level talks with key officials, including Crown Princess Victoria and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.
This visit follows President Tinubu’s departure on October 2 for his annual leave, which is scheduled to last for two weeks. The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, earlier confirmed that Tinubu’s vacation in the UK is part of his regular annual leave.
In a statement released by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Communications, Shettima’s visit will also include meetings with private sector stakeholders and a session with Norrsken, a Stockholm-based venture capital firm. Norrsken recently launched Norrsken22, a $205 million tech investment fund aimed at supporting Africa’s technology sector, with 40% of the investments earmarked for Nigerian tech entrepreneurs.
Shettima is expected to discuss Nigeria’s economic reforms and investment opportunities, further promoting the country’s vision for a business-friendly environment. The Vice President will return to Nigeria on Saturday, according to the statement.
