Tinubu Replaces South-east Nominee Who Rejected Membership of CBN Board
President Bola Tinubu has nominated Ruby Onwudiwe as a member of the board of directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), following the withdrawal of the former South-east nominee, Urum Eke, who cited his current engagement at the World Bank.
The announcement was made in a letter read by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, during Wednesday’s plenary session.
In the letter, President Tinubu highlighted that Ruby Onwudiwe is replacing Urum Eke, who declined the nomination due to his ongoing commitments at the World Bank.
Urum Eke, a consultant to the World Bank from Abia State, had rejected his nomination to the CBN board last month.
President Tinubu’s letter also included nominations for four other individuals—Robert Agbide, Ado Wanga, Murtala Sagaley, and Muslimat Aliu—who were present and confirmed during the screening process.
President Tinubu emphasized that his action was in accordance with the provisions of Section 10(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.
In the letter, he stated, “In compliance with the provision of section 10 (1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) establishment Act 2007, I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate, the appointment of Ruby C. Onwudiwe, PhD as a member of the board of directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria. His curriculum vitae is attached.”
He further added, “The Senate is advised to kindly note that Ruby Onwudiwe is a replacement of Mr Urum Kalu Eke due to the unavailability of Mr Eke to serve in that position.”
The nomination of Ruby Onwudiwe now awaits screening and confirmation by the Senate.
