Tinubu Donates All Salaries Since Assuming Office to Armed Forces Support Fund
President Bola Tinubu has announced that all his salaries since assuming office will be donated to a newly established support fund for members of Nigeria’s armed forces and their families.
In a statement released on Sunday to mark his 74th birthday, the president said the initiative is intended to recognise the sacrifices of military personnel and provide direct assistance to those affected by service-related injuries or loss.
Tinubu disclosed that he has directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to create a dedicated account for the fund. According to him, the scheme will focus on supporting wounded personnel as well as families of those who died in active service.
He said his salary contributions will serve as the initial funding for the programme, noting that the gesture is separate from existing welfare and insurance structures available to military personnel.
The president also appealed to state governors, lawmakers, private sector stakeholders and other citizens to contribute to the fund. He added that details of the account would be made public at a later date.
Tinubu emphasised that the initiative reflects a national responsibility to support service members and their families, particularly those who have suffered loss or injury in the line of duty.
