Tinubu Directed me to Build New Appeal Court in Abuja, Says Minister Wike
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, announced at the 2023 All Nigeria Judges’ Conference the receipt of a presidential directive to construct a new Court of Appeal in Abuja. This directive, attributed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aligns with efforts to bolster the judicial system within an environment conducive to impartial justice delivery.
During the opening ceremony of the conference held at the National Judicial Institute, Wike emphasized the directive’s significance in supporting the judiciary’s operations without bias. The directive includes erecting a new Court of Appeal division within the FCT, scheduled for completion in the next 15 months. Additionally, it involves the construction of residences for High Court judges and magistrates in Abuja, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing the infrastructure and welfare of judicial officers.
Wike praised the National Judicial Institute for its role in facilitating discussions among judges, fostering the exchange of ideas, and addressing critical legal matters. He highlighted the conference as a vital platform for judges to remain updated on legal developments, share best practices, and collectively strategize to improve the administration of justice in Nigeria.
In his keynote address, Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, underscored the conference’s importance as both an opportunity for reflection and a visioning platform for the judiciary’s future.
