Tinubu Appoints Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Foreign Affairs Minister, Names Enikanolaiye as Minister of State

President Bola Tinubu has approved a leadership change at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, naming Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as the new minister following the resignation of Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar.

The announcement was made on Wednesday in a statement issued by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga. The presidency said the adjustment is part of broader efforts to reposition Nigeria’s external relations and align diplomacy with economic objectives.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, returns to the ministry with a background in diplomatic service spanning several years. The government described her appointment as a move to reinforce Nigeria’s international engagement, particularly in areas linked to economic cooperation and regional stability.

In the same development, President Tinubu also nominated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. His appointment is subject to Senate confirmation.

According to the presidency, Enikanolaiye’s diplomatic career includes postings in Addis Ababa, London, Ottawa, Belgrade, and New Delhi. He previously served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations.

The statement noted that both appointments are intended to strengthen continuity within Nigeria’s foreign service while expanding the country’s global engagement. It added that the administration expects the new leadership team to focus on economic diplomacy and improved support for Nigerians abroad.
