Tinubu Appoints Argungu as New Police Service Commission Chair

In a move aimed at furthering the reform of Nigeria’s police force, President Bola Tinubu has appointed retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Hashimu Argungu as the new Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC). The announcement, made on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, emphasized that these appointments are subject to Senate confirmation.

Alongside Argungu’s appointment, President Tinubu has designated Chief Onyemuche Nnamani as Secretary of the council and retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Taiwo Lakanu as a Member of the Commission. These appointments are part of a broader strategy to modernize and enhance the professionalism and accountability of the Nigeria Police Force.

Additionally, Mr. Mohammed Sheidu has been named the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), a role he will assume immediately. This move is expected to support the ongoing transformation efforts within the police force.

The statement from Ajuri Ngelale underscores the President’s expectations for integrity, diligence, and patriotic zeal in the discharge of these significant responsibilities, highlighting their importance for the overall wellbeing of both the Nigeria Police and the nation.
