Thugs Disrupt Planned Protest in Port Harcourt
Port Harcourt’s Rumuokwuta area was engulfed in chaos as armed thugs took control of a designated protest site, disrupting plans for the “FearlessInOctober” demonstration against economic hardship in Nigeria.
The protest was organized to coincide with Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day celebrations, where activists aimed to voice their discontent with the government’s policies, particularly the removal of the petrol subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange rate—measures believed to be driving inflation and escalating living costs across the country.
Witnesses reported that the cane-wielding hoodlums asserted their presence at the protest ground, declaring their opposition to any demonstrations in Rivers State. They issued threats against journalists, warning that anyone who attempted to document the scene would face violence.
