Three Mortuary Attendants Escape Lynching in Abia Over Missing Testicle of Deceased
Three mortuary attendants in the Obingwa council area of Abia State narrowly escaped being lynched by angry youths on Monday, March 31, after the testicle of a deceased man was discovered missing from his body at the mortuary where they worked.
The incident began when a family who had deposited their son’s remains at the facility went to retrieve the body for burial. During the preparation, one of the daughters insisted on undressing the corpse for a thorough inspection before leaving. Upon doing so, they discovered that the man’s testicle was missing. This revelation triggered outrage among the youths from nearby communities who had accompanied the family to the mortuary.
Eyewitnesses reported that the mortuary attendants attempted to flee the scene but were quickly apprehended by the irate crowd. The situation escalated as locals expressed their shock and anger, with some claiming they had long suspected foul play at the facility. “It is an abomination in Igbo land to sever the body part of a dead person. Now, we have seen what he has done and why his business is flourishing. He was operating his mortuary business in that abandoned filling station,” one eyewitness said. The locals vowed that the attendants would face consequences for their actions.
As of now, the state police command has not issued any official statement regarding the incident.
