Three Headless Bodies Found in Ondo River, Police Launch Investigation
Shock and fear have gripped residents of Odigbo Local Government Area in Ondo State after three headless corpses were discovered floating in a river along the old Odigbo-Ore Road. The decomposing bodies were found on Sunday, lodged along the riverbanks, prompting speculation that the victims may have been murdered and dumped in the water.
Locals made the grim discovery early in the day, and a former youth leader, Mr. Shileola, who rushed to the scene, said the victims remained unidentified. “I tried to identify the victims by their clothing, but we couldn’t recognise any of them. We suspect they were kidnapped and later killed,” he told *Daily Trust*.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, said residents alerted the authorities, and the Divisional Police Officer from Ore recovered the bodies and moved them to the General Hospital morgue. He also revealed that no missing person reports had been filed in connection with the case and that none of the victims had been identified.
Olushola noted that the river where the bodies were found lies along the borders of Ondo, Ogun, and Edo states, leaving open the possibility that the crime may have occurred outside Ondo State. Community leaders and stakeholders have been summoned by the police to assist with the investigation, which is still ongoing.
