“Threats Won’t Stop Nigerians From Voting Tinubu Out” — ADC Blasts Wike

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over his reported declaration of “war” against candidates opposed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the February 21, 2026 elections.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described the minister’s comments as irresponsible and potentially destabilising.

The ADC said the remarks would not deter Nigerians from exercising their right to choose their leaders at the polls. It argued that such language was particularly concerning at a time when the country is facing economic challenges, insecurity and heightened political tension.

According to the party, public office holders should avoid statements that could inflame an already sensitive political climate. It maintained that Nigeria remains a constitutional democracy where power ultimately resides with the electorate, not with individuals in government.

The ADC also addressed President Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that voters cannot be intimidated or pressured into supporting any candidate. The party suggested that threats or aggressive rhetoric signal unease about public support and a widening gap between the government and citizens.

It urged the president, the APC and other officials to allow the electorate to deliver its verdict without interference if they are confident in their performance.

The party further pledged to oppose any attempt to undermine the electoral process. It said it was prepared to work with democratic institutions, civil society groups and voters to safeguard the integrity of the ballot.

Reaffirming its position, the ADC stated that no form of political pressure would override the will of Nigerians in the February 21 polls.
