“This Is How to Lead, Tinubu Should Be Studied” – Atiku’s Former Spokesperson Hails President as Wike, Fubara Reconcile
By Arthur Maduka
Segun Sowunmi, a former spokesman for ex-PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has praised President Bola Tinubu’s role in brokering peace between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara. Describing Tinubu’s leadership as worthy of academic study, Sowunmi commended the president for resolving a prolonged political crisis that had divided the state’s leadership since Fubara assumed office in 2023.
The strained relationship between Wike and Fubara had escalated to a level that prompted the presidency to intervene, leading to Fubara’s suspension and the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. However, on the night of the reconciliation, a meeting held at the Presidential Villa brought both parties together under the mediation of President Tinubu.
Following the meeting, Wike confirmed that all sides involved in the dispute had agreed to set aside their differences and work collaboratively going forward. He declared that peace had returned to the state.
Reacting to the development, Sowunmi shared his thoughts on X, describing the resolution as an example of true leadership. “This is how to lead! A leader must resolve issues, not make them worse,” he wrote. He added that there is value in studying Tinubu’s leadership approach, saying, “It is a weakness and colonial mentality to think that one of our own cannot be learned.”
Sowunmi went on to thank Governor Fubara, Minister Wike, members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, and respected elders who supported the reconciliation. “This has always been my position,” he said, celebrating what he called the return of a united “Team Rivers.”
