Ganduje Set to Resign as APC National Chairman
Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is expected to resign as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday, according to a report by Daily Nigerian. His resignation, if finalized, would represent a major shift in the ruling party’s leadership as it prepares for its December convention.
Daily Nigerian reports that Ganduje will likely be replaced on an interim basis by one of the party’s national vice chairmen. The move is seen as an attempt to ease internal tensions and address longstanding grievances, particularly from stakeholders in the North Central region who have been pushing for the chairmanship to return to their zone.
Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State, was appointed in August 2023 following the resignation of Abdullahi Adamu. His emergence stirred discontent within the party, with many from the North Central feeling sidelined in the party’s power structure.
Sources quoted by Daily Nigerian indicated that Ganduje was persuaded to step down amid growing internal opposition and broader strategic considerations as the APC positions itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.
