“The PDP Governors’ Forum is not an organ of our party; I remain the National Secretary” – Anyanwu
In a defiant stance, the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has dismissed the endorsement of his rival by the PDP Governors’ Forum, maintaining that he remains the rightful National Secretary of the party. Speaking in a telephone interview with Vanguard on Friday, Anyanwu emphasized that the PDP Governors’ Forum is not an official organ of the party, describing it as just one of several pressure groups within the PDP.
He expressed confidence in his position, stating, “The Governors’ Forum is one out of several pressure groups in our party. You can see even the communique they issued is adversarial. There’s a likelihood that they did what they did to satisfy Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State.”
Anyanwu pointed to the supremacy of the Nigerian Constitution and the judiciary, citing a recent Court of Appeal ruling that granted a stay of execution on a previous judgment, which he believes is in his favor. “The Appeal Court gave an order for a stay of execution of an earlier judgement, and the Court’s current position is clearly in my favour; there is absolutely nothing to worry about,” he said.
He also reiterated that he is complying with the court’s order and underscored that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will only recognize him as the legitimate PDP National Secretary.
