PDP Crisis: Damagum, Whom I Helped, Has Betrayed Me, Wouldn’t Hesitate to Kill Me — Wike
Federal Capital Minister Nyesom Wike has accused Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman Umar Damagum of betrayal, saying he has now become Damagum’s adversary despite helping him rise to his current position.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Wike claimed he was instrumental in Damagum securing the PDP chairmanship, providing legal support and other assistance that sustained him in the role. “I did everything, I had his lawyers, and that’s what sustained Damagum to be there,” Wike said. He added, “But who is Damagum’s enemy now? It is me. If there is one person Damagum wants to be killed, it is me.”
Wike’s comments come amid rising tensions within the PDP. SK Blog recently reported that former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido urged the Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC) to expel Wike, along with former governors Samuel Ortom of Benue State and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, from the party. Lamido called on the NWC to sanction members who, in his view, undermine the PDP to the advantage of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
