“The Minimum I Give on Sundays Is $12,000… I Will Be Stinkingly Rich Whether You Give Me an Offering or Not” — Pastor David Ibiyeomie

Port Harcourt-based clergyman, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, has sparked widespread discussion after disclosing the scale of his personal church offerings and making strong statements about wealth, giving, and poverty during a recent sermon.

Addressing his congregation, the pastor said his financial contributions to church are consistent and significant, adding that they are not influenced by external donations or circumstances.

“The minimum I give on a Sunday is $12,000. That is the minimum… every Sunday. And the minimum I give on weekdays is $2,000. Even when I am not in church, even when I travel, my offering will be there,” he said.

He further insisted that his prosperity is not dependent on offerings from members of his church.

“If you don’t give your offering, I will be rich, stinkingly rich. I know how to move the hand of God. I am not depending on your money,” he stated.

He also claimed that his wealth is anchored on what he described as a spiritual covenant rather than congregational support.

“If my birthday is coming, get angry and don’t give me any money. This guy will be stupendously rich because it is not coming from you. It is coming from my covenant work with God,” he added.

In his message, Ibiyeomie also addressed what he believes are the causes of poverty, linking it to personal financial behavior and generosity.

“You know why you are poor? Stinginess is the gateway to poverty and giving is the gateway to prosperity. Make your choice,” he said.

He further argued that consistent giving is expected of believers, adding that lifestyle choices reflect spiritual priorities.

“Every poor man is stingy. If you are born again for years, you must be free-handed. How can you be using ₦20,000 for entertainment and come to church and give ₦2,000? God will say, look at this prodigal son,” he added.

The comments have since generated reactions across social media, with opinions divided between those questioning his statements and others defending his teachings on prosperity and giving.
