“The Judgment Is Technically of No Effect,” Says Wabara on Ibadan Court Ruling as Turaki-Led PDP NWC Remains

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says a Federal High Court judgment in Ibadan does not remove the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki.

In a statement on Friday, BoT Chairman and former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, said the ruling, which nullified the PDP’s November 2025 national convention, has “no practical effect” because the core issues in the case are already before the Court of Appeal.

According to Wabara, the party has filed an appeal and a motion for stay of execution, steps he said place the High Court judgment “in abeyance” and leave the Turaki-led NWC in office.

“The judgment is technically of no effect and at best academic as the central issues are already before the Court of Appeal,” he said.

The Federal High Court in Ibadan had earlier voided the PDP’s convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, a decision that raised questions about the status of the party’s leadership elected at the event.

Wabara also questioned aspects of the ruling, saying the court went beyond the issues raised by the parties in the case.

“It is a matter of concern that the court, after declining the order of mandamus sought by the party, proceeded to grant reliefs that were not requested by any of the parties,” he said.

He assured party members and supporters that the NWC remains validly constituted and urged calm within the party as the appeal process continues.

The BoT reaffirmed its support for the Turaki-led leadership and said the party remains focused on preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
