What was meant to be a ‘Thank You’ tour by the Kwara State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bashir Bolarinwa and his team on Tuesday descended into free for all as suspected thugs attacked party chiefs and members.
The attack which happened on Tuesday night at Shao town in Moro Local Government Area of the state sent party chiefs and members running for their lives after the thugs invaded the venue of the meeting and prevented the meeting from holding.
It was gathered that a bus belonging to the party was damaged by the attackers who were said to have also threatened to inflict bodily harm to the party chairman and his team.
Reacting to the incident, the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq in a statement issued by his media aide, Rafiu Ajakaye condemned the attack and called on the police to bring the perpetrators to book.
“We condemn in strongest terms possible the alleged attack on the state chairman of the APC, Hon. Bashiru Omolaja Bolarinwa, allegedly by some hoodlums in Moro Local Government Area. This is very disturbing.
“The governor is very proud of the peaceful atmosphere in the state and seriously frowns at any action that might heat up the polity under whatever guise.
“He calls on the security agencies to not just fish out those behind the attack but to also make sure they face the full weight of the law.
“For the record, the state faces many developmental issues and the governor has no time for anything that does not add value to the lives of the people he’s been elected to govern” he said.
The state chapter of the party had been embroiled in crisis following supremacy battle between the state governor and the Minister for Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed over control of party structures.
