Technical Faults Plunge Abuja and Port Harcourt Into Darkness

On the 20th of January 2024, residents of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, found themselves grappling with an unexpected power outage, courtesy of a major technical fault. The Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC) identified the culprit as a malfunctioning 15 MVA, 33/11kV power transformer located at the 1×15 MVA, M44 Charley Boy Injection Substation.

Areas significantly impacted by this technical glitch include Gwarimpa, Roads 63, 64, 69, Iya Kasuwa, Adkan Estate Gwarimpa, and their surrounding environs. AEDC management expressed regret, acknowledging that the necessary repairs might extend until January 22, 2024, attributing the timeline to the comprehensive scope of work required.

In a statement issued on Friday night, the AEDC appealed for the understanding of affected customers, assuring them that their engineers were diligently working to reinstate electricity to the affected areas. The AEDC emphasized their commitment to resolving the issue promptly, despite the inconvenience caused.

 

Port Harcourt Grapples with Supply Loss, Swift Repairs Underway

Concurrently, the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc (PHED) reported a power outage in the Rivers State capital since Thursday. The disruption was attributed to a loss of supply from the Afam 132KV line, necessitating repairs to a faulty conductor wire at the Port Harcourt Town Transmission Station.

The areas feeling the impact of this outage include Port Harcourt Town, PH Main, and Rumuosi Transmission Stations. PHED assured its customers that the power supply would be reinstated promptly once the repair work is completed. The announcement aimed to keep the affected residents informed about the ongoing efforts to resolve the issue and restore normalcy to their electricity supply.
