Tax Reform: “Look Out for Your January Salary” – NRS Boss Adedeji Tells Income Earners
Dr. Zacch Adedeji, Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), has advised lower-level income earners to review their January paychecks to understand the effect of Nigeria’s updated tax laws.
Speaking on TVC’s *Journalists Hangout* on Tuesday, Adedeji said the changes are designed to reduce tax liabilities for this group, with differences becoming visible in the January 2026 salary cycle.
“The new tax framework aims to protect Nigerians’ earnings rather than increase their burden,” he said. He highlighted that essential expenses, including food and transportation, are exempt from transactional taxes to preserve disposable income.
Adedeji encouraged workers to compare their current earnings with amounts paid under previous tax regulations.
He also dismissed circulating misinformation about the tax changes, noting that concerns raised earlier have not materialized. “As of today, January 13, the claims we’ve been hearing are simply not evident,” he added.
