Taraba Government Clears Air on Alleged Replacement of Deputy Governor

The Taraba State Government has clarified the circumstances surrounding the temporary assignment of Dr. Emmanuel Lawson Hassan to oversee the duties of the Deputy Governor, dispelling claims of a replacement. At a press briefing in Jalingo, Professor Josiah Kente, Special Adviser on Political Matters to Governor Agbu Kefas, described the speculation as “misleading narratives,” affirming that the move is purely administrative and meant to ensure continuity in governance while Deputy Governor Alhaji Aminu Alkali Abubakar takes time off for medical treatment.

“It is neither a replacement nor a usurpation of the Deputy Governor’s mandate,” Kente stated. He explained that the temporary measure was necessary to keep the office functional and maintain service delivery during the Deputy Governor’s absence.

The decision has attracted criticism in some quarters, with suggestions of political or religious motives behind the assignment. Kente firmly dismissed these insinuations, labeling them as unhelpful and divisive. He emphasized that Dr. Lawson’s appointment has no religious or political basis and is not a permanent substitution.

He called on the public, especially political stakeholders, to avoid narratives that could inflame tensions or misrepresent the government’s intentions. Kente also assured citizens that Deputy Governor Abubakar is recovering well, and that Governor Kefas remains in close contact with him and his family, offering full support and encouragement.
