Muslim Council Bans Wedding Parties in Taraba State

The Muslim Council of Taraba State has announced a ban on all forms of wedding parties within Jalingo, the state capital.

The decision follows consultations with Islamic clerics, traditional rulers, and local authorities. It specifically targets popular celebrations such as Kauyawa and Ajo parties, which are known for large gatherings of youths often dancing late into the night.

The ban was highlighted in sermons delivered by all imams across Jummat mosques in Jalingo during last Friday’s prayers.

Imam Tajudeen Nuhu, Chief Imam of Mayo Gwoi Jummat Mosque, conveyed the council’s directive, stating:

“Henceforth, it is forbidden for any household to hold Kauyawa, Ajo, or any form of celebration during weddings here in Jalingo. Defaulters will face stiff sanctions: no imam will conduct their Nikah, and funeral prayers, naming ceremonies, or wedding lectures will not be held in their homes.”

Clerics have also been instructed not to attend banned events, with violations potentially leading to loss of their positions. The council has called for strict compliance with the directive.
