‘Sylva’s Disqualification Mere Distraction’ – Ganduje

The chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has labeled the court judgment disqualifying Timipre Sylva from contesting the upcoming Bayelsa gubernatorial election as nothing more than a distraction. Ganduje expressed confidence in the party’s ability to secure victory in the election scheduled for November 11.

Ganduje did not mince words when addressing the candidate who initiated the legal challenge, stating that the individual was not equally qualified to run in the election. He argued that the candidate in question did not compete against Sylva and, therefore, lacked the standing to bring the matter before the court.

During a visit to the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, Ganduje commented on the situation, saying, “It’s unfortunate that the judgment came, but we can say that it is democracy in action. But we learned that the person who took the issue to the court of law is not even qualified, because he did not contest with Sylva. Therefore, he’s not even qualified to take the issue to the court.”

Ganduje affirmed the party’s intention to appeal the decision, saying, “However, we are appealing. We’re waiting for the judgment and then we appeal for calm on that issue. Last two weeks I was in Bayelsa for two good days, and I think they are ready and they’re still ready to win the election. Therefore, this is a little distraction anyway, but we will overcome it. We believe the Appeal Court will give us a positive judgment, but that will not stop us from making arrangements for the forthcoming election.”

This development sets the stage for a legal battle in the lead-up to the Bayelsa gubernatorial election, with the APC firmly committed to pursuing its case in the courts and ensuring that its candidate, Timipre Sylva, remains in the race.
