Suspected Terrorists Kill 20 in Niger Community, Force Families to Carry Headless Bodies While Videotaping
Tragedy struck the Bassa community in Niger state as suspected terrorists reportedly claimed the lives of twenty individuals. The victims, all young men aged between 20 and 35, fell prey to a brutal onslaught by heavily armed assailants.
Sources reveal that the attackers, numbering over fifty, unleashed terror upon the community between the hours of 3 pm and 7 pm. Witnesses recount a harrowing scene where the assailants, armed with sophisticated weaponry, carried out their deadly rampage with impunity.
Disturbingly, after executing their victims, the gunmen subjected the bereaved community members to further horror by forcing them to carry the headless bodies while capturing images and videos of the grisly aftermath.
Reports indicate that the terrorists attempted to recruit ten young men from the community, met with resistance, and subsequently resorted to violence. Ten individuals were tragically shot at close range, while the remaining ten suffered the horrific fate of beheading.
Amidst the chaos and devastation, residents express a growing fear that the assailants belong to the notorious Boko Haram insurgency, known for their ruthless tactics and relentless attacks on civilian populations.
While official statements from the state government and the Niger state Police Command are awaited, Senator Mohammed Sani Musa, representing Niger East Senatorial district, condemns the atrocity in the strongest terms. Describing the killings as barbaric and inhumane, he voices concerns over the impact on the community’s livelihood, particularly during the crucial wet season farming period.
“This is my darkest moment as the representative of the people of Niger East Senatorial district. I am very helpless at the moment. My people, including men, women, and children, are being killed like animals,” laments Senator Musa.
