A Catholic priest in Ibadan, Oyo State, was shot and robbed of N250,000 by suspected armed robbers who trailed him from a bank on Monday, April 14, 2025. Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Ogboli of St. Felix Catholic Church, Oluyole, had reportedly withdrawn the money from Zenith Bank on Ring Road and was on his way back when he was attacked near Rhema Bridge.
According to security sources, the priest was riding on a commercial motorcycle when two unidentified men on another bike intercepted and opened fire, hitting him in the left thigh before seizing the cash. Police operatives from the Oluyole Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, responded promptly to a distress call and rushed the injured priest to Divine Hospital, Oluyole. He was later transferred to Adeoyo State Hospital for further treatment.
The police have since launched an investigation and a manhunt to track down the assailants.
