JUST IN: Suspected Herdsmen Kill Village Head, Abduct Residents in Nasarawa Community Attack
Tse Yange, a Tiv community in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, came under a deadly attack late Sunday night when suspected herdsmen stormed the village, killing the traditional ruler and abducting several residents.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers arrived on motorbikes under the cover of darkness, launching a coordinated assault that plunged the agrarian settlement into chaos. The gunmen reportedly opened fire indiscriminately, forcing villagers to flee into nearby bushes for safety.
Local sources said the attack, which began late Sunday, lasted into the early hours of Monday, leaving many residents injured and dozens of homes abandoned. The village head, whose name was not immediately disclosed, was confirmed dead, while the exact number of those kidnapped or injured remains unclear at the time of filing this report.
Security operatives had yet to make an official statement on the incident, and no group has claimed responsibility. The attack has reignited concerns over persistent insecurity in Nasarawa and other parts of Nigeria’s Middle Belt, where similar incidents have displaced thousands in recent years.
