Suspected Car Thief Lynched After Fatally Stabbing Policeman, Complainant

In a shocking incident in Evwreni community, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, an angry mob set ablaze an unidentified suspected killer of a Police Constabulary and a complainant. The unfortunate events unfolded as the police were on a mission to recover a stolen vehicle.

Late Solomon Ughere, the deceased Constabulary Policeman allegedly attached to the JWC section of the Nigeria Police at the Ughelli Area Command, was among officers detailed to retrieve a suspected stolen vehicle parked at the premises of Living Faith Church, aka Winners Chapel, in Evwreni.

According to sources from the Delta State Police Command, the deceased complainant, Mr. Lucky Aki, a senior member of the church, had been sent by the church authority to report the case of the suspected stolen car at the Ughelli Area Command.

Upon reaching the scene, the officers encountered the suspect near the vehicle. In an attempt to evade arrest, the suspect reportedly stabbed Constable Solomon Ughere and Mr. Lucky Aki during a struggle. Sadly, Constable Ughere succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital, while Mr. Lucky Aki passed away after arriving at Ughelli Central Hospital.

Subsequently, the suspect fled into a nearby bush but was apprehended by an enraged mob that had gathered in the community. The mob later discovered two kidnapped victims at the suspect’s house before subjecting him to a severe beating and ultimately setting him ablaze.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edafe Bright, confirmed the incident with a brief statement saying, “Confirmed.” The tragic events highlight the escalating tensions and dangers faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty.
