“Support us in AMAC; it will help me in 2027 — I’m contesting as number one,” — Peter Obi

Peter Obi has connected the upcoming Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) election to his plan to run for president in 2027, telling supporters that grassroots backing in the Federal Capital Territory is part of a broader political strategy.

The former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate spoke while campaigning for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate ahead of the AMAC vote.

Addressing supporters at the event, Obi suggested that the local election carries national significance for him personally.

“You see this coming election, support us in AMAC; it will help me. Your support in AMAC is critical to our journey. I am involved and contesting the coming election as number one. When I come back, you will see. I assure you,” he said.

Obi recently joined the ADC, and some of his supporters, including members of the Obidient movement, have urged the party to adopt him as its presidential candidate for 2027. The calls have prompted internal discussions within the party about early positioning ahead of the next general election.

ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi responded to the growing pressure by cautioning supporters against divisive rhetoric and emphasizing the need for unity as the party begins preliminary alignments.

Since announcing his intention to run again, Obi has repeated that he would serve only a single four-year term if elected.
