Sultan: Sokoto Government Replies MURIC’s Allegation
Sokoto State Government has responded to allegations made by the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) concerning the Sultan of Sokoto. In a statement released today by Abubakar Bawa, press secretary to Governor Ahmed Aliyu, the government refuted MURIC’s claims as baseless and unfounded.
The controversy arose after MURIC suggested that the state government was planning to take actions against the Sultanate Council. Bawa criticized MURIC for aligning itself with what he termed “mischief makers” and accused them of fabricating unsubstantiated stories to create fear among law-abiding citizens.
“This is not the first time such false allegations have been made,” Bawa asserted. He highlighted previous instances where similar claims were debunked by the state government. Bawa emphasized the administration’s longstanding respect for the Sultanate Council, dating back to previous administrations.
Bawa clarified, “Islam and the promotion of Islamic affairs are pivotal components of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s agenda. Any suggestion that the government would undermine Islamic development in Sokoto is unfounded and unjustifiable.”
Regarding recent actions involving the dismissal and transfer of District Heads, Bawa reaffirmed that these decisions were made following due process and were based on recommendations from a white-paper committee. The committee found the District Heads implicated in behaviors detrimental to public interest, including involvement in land racketeering and failure to uphold security protocols.
In conclusion, Bawa urged MURIC and the public to recognize that no individual is above the law, stressing that the government’s actions were taken in the best interest of the state and its citizens. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to maintaining a harmonious relationship with the Sultanate Council and seeking its counsel on matters affecting the state.
The statement concluded by underscoring the administration’s dedication to upholding the rule of law and fostering a conducive environment for the development and prosperity of Sokoto State.
