“Promotion of Islamic Affairs Remains a Top Priority” – Sokoto Governor
Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, has reaffirmed that advancing Islamic affairs is a central focus of his administration.
He made the statement while receiving delegations from Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah from Kaduna and Jos during Sallah homage visits. His office confirmed the meetings in a statement issued Thursday through the Director-General of Media and Publicity, Abubakar Bawa.
Aliyu announced that the state government will now fully support the annual Ramadan Tafseer organized by Izala groups, aiming to ease their yearly fundraising efforts and ensure smoother religious programs.
“I don’t think it is appropriate for us in Sokoto to allow you to continue raising appeal funds every year to conduct the Ramadan Tafseer,” he said. “We will establish a committee to assess your financial needs and explore government support.”
The governor commended the groups for promoting Islamic teachings and the orderly conduct of this year’s Ramadan Tafseer, urging preachers to emphasize core Islamic principles to strengthen community understanding.
He also pledged sustained government support for religious activities, including facilitating participation in seminars and conferences nationally and internationally. Plans to prioritize the construction and renovation of Islamiyya schools and the improvement of cemeteries were also highlighted.
Leaders of the visiting Izala groups praised the governor for his support, noting significant mosque construction and renovation, as well as assistance to Imams, Deputy Imams, Mu’azzins, and Islamic preachers.
Aliyu additionally received members of the 23 Local Government Secretaries Forum, led by Shehu Goronyo, as part of ongoing state engagements.
