Student Tragically Struck by Teacher’s Car in Lagos

In a heart-wrenching incident, a 10-year-old student, identified as Rofiat, met a tragic end after being struck by a car within the premises of Isiu Grammar School, located in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State. The unfortunate incident occurred on Friday, September 29, leaving the school community in shock and sorrow.

According to information gathered by Punch Metro, young Rofiat had been playing with her friends on the school playground as the closing period approached. It was during this innocent playtime that tragedy struck. A vehicle, reportedly owned by a teacher known simply as Dele, had been parked several meters away but suddenly began rolling backward in her direction.

Tragically, Rofiat, a junior class student, was unaware of the approaching Nissan car. The vehicle collided with her, and the impact sent her tumbling to the ground, striking her forehead. Other students rushed to alert the teachers, who arrived at the scene to find Rofiat motionless and in distress.

A concerned resident of the area provided further insight into the incident, saying, “We were told that the incident happened around 1 pm. The car had been parked there since morning when the teacher arrived. We don’t know how it managed to move from the position.”

Rofiat was quickly rushed to Isiotu General Hospital for immediate medical attention. However, her condition deteriorated rapidly, and medical staff at the hospital realized the severity of her injuries. Consequently, they referred her to Agbowa General Hospital. Upon arrival at Agbowa, she was immediately admitted to the emergency section but, tragically, was later confirmed dead.

In response to this heartbreaking incident, police officers visited the school premises to document the scene and question teachers who were present when the tragedy occurred. The owner of the car, who had reported the incident to the police station, was subsequently taken into custody.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and stated, “Yes, it happened. The owner of the car was taken into custody. An investigation is ongoing.”

This tragic accident has cast a pall of sadness over Isiu Grammar School and the wider community, serving as a painful reminder of the importance of safety measures and vigilance in school environments.
