“Stop Daydreaming, Fubara Won’t Leave PDP for You,” Opposition Coalition Tells Wike

In a sharp rebuke, the Coalition of Opposition Lawmakers in Nigeria has criticized Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), over his recent remarks regarding Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara. The opposition group urged Wike to abandon any hopes that Governor Fubara would abandon the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in favor of aligning with him.

Wike had allegedly mocked his successor, Fubara, and his allies for considering the Alternative Political Party (APP) as a fallback option in the upcoming local elections in Rivers State. He boasted that he would teach them how to navigate political battles.

In response, the opposition coalition, through its spokesperson, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, criticized Wike’s remarks, labeling them as unfounded. According to Ugochinyere, Fubara has no intentions of leaving the PDP and will continue to steer the party in the coming days.

“Who told Wike that Fubara would leave the PDP? His claim is nothing but a daydream from a desperate politician,” Ugochinyere said, dismissing the notion that the Rivers governor had joined the APP as a falsehood.

Ugochinyere also emphasized that the battle for control of the PDP is far from over, and Wike’s tactics suggest he is panicking. He called on the FCT Minister to brace himself for the political fight ahead.

“Fubara has consistently outmaneuvered Wike in this struggle. There is no reason to believe he would abandon the PDP for an APC figure like Wike. Rivers PDP is under Fubara’s control, and Wike’s influence is diminishing,” Ugochinyere added.

The opposition spokesman also took aim at Wike’s efforts to undermine Fubara’s administration at the local government level. He claimed that despite Wike’s attempts to destabilize the system, Fubara has successfully strengthened local governance in Rivers State, much to Wike’s frustration.

Ugochinyere further noted that the PDP executives Wike claims to lead in Rivers are illegitimate, having been nullified by the courts. He reiterated that the true PDP in Rivers remains firmly under Fubara’s leadership, and that Wike should prepare for the looming battle over the party’s future in the state.
