“Step Aside for Obi in 2027,” Obidient Movement Tells Jonathan
The Obidient Movement has called on former President Goodluck Jonathan to support Peter Obi rather than challenge him in the 2027 presidential election. The appeal follows a closed-door meeting between Obi and Jonathan on Thursday.
Sharing photos from the meeting on his X handle, Obi described Jonathan as “a very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader,” noting that their conversation focused on the state of the nation. While speculation continues over whether Jonathan will join the 2027 race, he has not made any formal declaration.
In a statement, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, urged Jonathan to step aside in the spirit of fairness and national progress. Tanko acknowledged Jonathan’s role as a respected leader but stressed that Obi remains the candidate of choice for millions of Nigerians seeking a new direction.
“They have been friends for a long time. The meeting was for them to fraternise and discuss how to rescue Nigeria. But for us in the Obidient Movement, it would be great if Jonathan remains the respected statesman he is known for. He has done his best as President, he is respected, and this is the time for him to support his brother,” Tanko said
